Special Funeral and Other Arrangements for Veterans Who Pass Away

U.S. Veterans who were honorably discharged are entitled to special benefits when they die from the Veterans Benefits Administration. This relates to spouses, and in some cases children, dependent parents and other special situations. They even have care services, like bereavement counseling.

Other benefits may include special funeral arrangements, such as an American flag for the casket of the US military veteran.

To make sure that you are prepared, have important military service records and information available, including any previous VA claim numbers and the date of entry for active service.

You can reach the Office of Survivors Assistance at the US Department of Veteran’s affairs at 1-800-827-1000 or www.va.gov/SURVIVORS for more information.
